Officers Surround Motel Room After Tracing Vehicle
Investigators traced the suspect’s vehicle to a nearby motel and identified the specific room where he was staying. Officers established a perimeter and deployed public address systems, spotlights, and sirens to urge the occupants to exit safely. The door briefly opened and slammed shut, confirming people were inside.
Gunfire Erupts at the Threshold
After 35 minutes of negotiations, a woman exited the motel room unharmed. Moments later, the male suspect opened the door and discharged a firearm directly at the officers outside. At least one police vehicle sustained gunfire damage. Three officers returned fire, prompting the man to retreat inside and slam the door shut as another gunshot echoed from within.
SWAT Breaches Motel Room and Finds Suspect Dead
Officers maintained containment until specialized SWAT personnel arrived on the scene. SWAT units executed an explosive breach of the motel room door and deployed a reconnaissance drone. The drone confirmed that the suspect was deceased.
Investigators subsequently determined that the man had sustained a torso wound from the officers returning fire, alongside a self-induced gunshot wound to the head. According to police findings, the suspect made statements indicating he had harmed a family member and explicitly stated an intent to prompt a fatal confrontation with law enforcement.
