Manchester Police Investigate Apparent Murder-Suicide on Wheelock Street

Authorities in Manchester, New Hampshire, are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that left two adults dead and an 8-year-old child wounded inside a two-story residence on Tuesday. Police were dispatched to 59 Wheelock St. at 9:34 a.m. after a 911 caller requested a well-being check, prosecutors said. The caller was a family member outside the home who reported a potential domestic dispute, Senior Assistant Attorney General Alex Kellermann said at a news conference.

Officers who entered the home found a man and a woman dead in a bedroom, according to Kellermann. The man suffered from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, and the woman suffered from several apparent gunshot wounds. Officers also found the 8-year-old boy, who had been shot in the torso. Despite his injuries, the child was alert and conscious when first responders arrived.

Officials said Tuesday that the boy was stable and receiving treatment at a regional trauma center. Autopsies on the deceased victims, a man and a woman, were scheduled for Wednesday morning. The condition of the 8-year-old boy wasn’t immediately available Wednesday, and a spokesperson for state Attorney General John M. Formella’s office did not immediately return a request for comment.

Ongoing Investigation Into Identities and Prior Events

Authorities have not publicly identified the deceased adults or detailed what preceded the violence inside the home, which assessing records describe as a two-family residence. Detectives are continuing to determine the identities and relationships of the victims involved in the incident.

“It’s fair to say that it was crucial that that call was made, and that child was able to get the lifesaving treatment that he needed,” Kellermann said during the Tuesday news conference.

Investigators are treating the case as a potential murder-suicide while forensic teams and detectives process the scene on Wheelock Street.
