Technical issues brought Montana Millionaire ticket sales to a sudden halt on Sunday morning, leaving eager buyers waiting at gas stations, bars, taverns, grocery stores, and casinos across the state, montanarightnow.com reported.
Why are ticket sales currently paused?
The Montana State Lottery confirmed that technical problems forced the temporary suspension of ticket sales on Sunday morning. Lottery officials stated that their technical team is actively working to resolve the issue, though no specific timeline has been provided for when systems will return to normal operation. Before the technical failure occurred, in-store ticket trackers recorded that 715,057 tickets remained available out of the total pool.

How many tickets are available this year?
For the 2026 holiday season, the Montana Lottery increased capacity by adding an extra 100,000 tickets, bringing the overall inventory to 720,000 tickets up for grabs. This expansion follows several years of exceptionally rapid sellouts. In previous years, tickets vanished within a single day, with a batch of 620,000 tickets selling out in just over six and a half hours. Despite the current system outage, thousands of tickets were successfully purchased before the terminals went dark.
What prizes are on the line?
Players purchasing tickets are vying for a greatly expanded prize structure. The Montana Lottery announced last month that it added a sixth million-dollar grand prize to the lineup. In addition to the grand prizes, the game features instant win prizes of $100 and $500. Lottery rules specify that anyone who claims an instant win remains fully eligible for all subsequent drawings. Tickets purchased up until the deadline will be entered into the $250,000 Quarter Million Monday drawing scheduled for November 30. The six $1 million grand prizes, alongside a $20,000 Player’s Club drawing, will be drawn later this winter on December 28. In 2025, winning tickets were sold in Missoula, Billings, Columbia Falls as well as two sold in Butte.

Montana Millionaire. The most popular lottery in the state. Supposed to start selling at 530am, it's been 1hr45min and not a ticket has been sold at this store. Complete failure of the state lottery system. Sigh… why did I agree to this? pic.twitter.com/OCBQqcs2XS
