Stalemate Snaps Nashville’s Record Streak
Nashville SC and the visiting Philadelphia Union played to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday in a match where both teams struggled to generate offensive chances. The stalemate brought an end to Nashville’s MLS record-tying 10-match home winning streak while extending their overall unbeaten run to eight matches.
Late Chances Define a Quiet Match
Nashville entered the contest tied for second in the league with 66 goals, yet they were held without a single shot on target until the 88th minute, when Union goalkeeper Andre Blake easily saved a header from Sam Surridge. The home side’s best opportunity to secure a late winner came in the third minute of second-half stoppage time during a scramble inside the box, but the ball was eventually cleared out of danger.
Union Defense Prevails Despite Absences
For Philadelphia, the match secured a hard-fought clean sheet despite missing several contributors. The Union played without Milan Iloski and Cavan Sullivan due to injuries, while Bruno Damiani sat out because of yellow-card accumulation. The visitors managed just one shot on target all night, which arrived in the 71st minute when Quinn Sullivan delivered a cross from the right side of the box to Ben Bender, whose effort was turned away by a brilliant kick save from Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake.
Playoff Berth Secured for Philadelphia
The result marked Philadelphia’s first shutout since a 5-0 victory over San Diego FC on September 12. More importantly, the Union officially clinched a spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs following the New York Red Bulls’ 3-2 loss to the New England Revolution.
Milestones for Schwake and Historical Context
At the other end of the pitch, Schwake recorded his 15th clean sheet of the season, placing him among a group of four goalkeepers in MLS history to reach that milestone in a single campaign. Nashville was held scoreless for the first time since a 0-0 draw against New York City FC on September 4.

Despite the offensive quiet, Nashville’s broader regular-season trajectory remains historic. Their 10 consecutive home victories had tied a league record previously shared by the 2023 FC Cincinnati side and the 2002 San Jose Earthquakes. With the single point earned on Wednesday night, Nashville sits at 21-3-8 with 71 points, placing them three points shy of tying the MLS single-season points record established by Inter Miami in 2024.
