The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality is moving forward with a major change in Burke County by issuing a draft construction air pollution permit that turns the Steel Reef Burke LLC – Lignite Gas Plant into a compressor station. Alongside the conversion, the facility’s name has been changed to the Lignite Compressor Station under this permit action.
Preliminary evaluations conducted by the department indicate that the converted facility will comply with all applicable air pollution control rules, resulting in no detrimental or significant effects to air quality. Predicted concentrations in the air surrounding the facility are expected to remain below state and federal ambient air quality standards.
