Derrick Henry and the Ravens Trade Deadline Reality
Derrick Henry heard directly from the Baltimore front office that the organization has no intention of trading him, according to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN. That message arrives as the Ravens face a four-game losing streak and try to salvage a 4-5 record following a 33-10 Thursday night loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The production for the running back has notably dipped since quarterback Lamar Jackson suffered an injury before halftime in a Week 4 victory against the Titans. Following the Jacksonville loss—only the second Jacksonville win in Baltimore since 2000—a visibly frustrated Henry addressed his status publicly. He stated that he had not brought up playing elsewhere as the trade deadline approaches.
Baltimore Might Consider Trading Henry If He Requests Departure
While team leadership conveyed no desire to move the soon-to-be 33-year-old tailback, NFL history shows that intentions can shift quickly before the 4:00 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday. Baltimore already traded for quarterback Jacoby Brissett to keep their playoff aspirations alive. Yet, the team would likely only entertain moving Henry if he made a compelling personal case for a departure, and if management is already planning to move on after the 2026 season.
External connections add intrigue to the situation. Henry has two former head coaches currently leading playoff contenders. Former Titans coach Mike Vrabel leads the 5-3 Patriots, a team currently managing an unexplained illness keeping Treveyon Henderson out for a second straight week. Meanwhile, former Ravens coach John Harbaugh leads the 4-2-1 Giants, a franchise that has also been linked to Colts running back Jonathan Taylor.
Until the trade deadline clock expires on Tuesday afternoon, the exact meaning of “no intention” remains open to interpretation across the league.
