NY and NJ Restaurant Chains Expand Into Connecticut

The culinary migration across the Tri-State border is picking up pace, bringing a distinct taste of New York and New Jersey directly into Connecticut communities.

In the past year, a steady wave of eateries rooted in the Empire and Garden States has established outposts in the Nutmeg State, offering menus ranging from Mediterranean plates to classic smash burgers, as ctinsider.com reported.

A Familiar Cross-Border Culinary Exchange

This culinary cross-pollination is nothing new for the region. Long before the recent arrivals, New Jersey staple Jersey Mike’s planted its flag in Connecticut back in 2014, according to ctinsider.com. That early arrival paved the way for other regional concepts, including New Jersey-based Playa Bowls opening in Wilton in 2018, New York City’s Just Salad arriving in Fairfield in 2022, and Middle Eastern eatery NAYA opening its doors in Darien in 2023.

At the same time, Connecticut has increasingly exported its own culinary footprints. Sally’s Apizza has expanded beyond home turf into Massachusetts, with prospective locations targeted for Florida, Rhode Island, and New York.
