No. 7 Rhode Island FC travels to face the No. 2 Charleston Battery at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, kicking off its third-straight run in the USL Championship Playoffs at 7:00 p.m. ET, as rhodeislandfc.com reported. The Eastern Conference Quarterfinal marks the third postseason meeting between the two clubs.
For Rhode Island FC, the trip south revives memories of high-stakes playoff drama. In both prior postseason clashes, RIFC prevailed on the road against the Battery, including a historic victory during the inaugural 2024 season that sent the Ocean State club to the Eastern Conference Final. Last year, RIFC returned to Patriots Point on Nov. 2, 2025, and eliminated the second-seeded hosts in a penalty shootout following a scoreless regulation draw.
Home Fortress Meets Postseason Resilience
Charleston enters the quarterfinal fixture anchored by the strongest home record in the USL Championship. The South Carolina side secured 11 home wins during the regular season, scoring 35 of its 56 total goals on its home pitch. However, cracks in that fortress appeared late in the campaign. Following Sept. 1, the Battery stumbled to a 3W-2L-0T mark in their final five home matches, dropping decisions to Hartford Athletic and Louisville City FC.
The teams last met on Sept. 26 at Patriots Point, where Charleston handed RIFC a 2-0 defeat. Earlier in the season, on April 22, Rhode Island had claimed a dominant 4-0 victory at Centreville Bank Stadium. Overall, RIFC holds a 4W-2T-2L edge in the all-time series against the Battery, though history resets when playoff survival is on the line.

Balanced Offense Versus Airtight Early Defense
Charleston boasts the second-highest scoring offense in the league, driven primarily by forwards Maalique Foster and Colton Swan with nine goals each. Miguel Berry and Emilio Ycaza contributed eight goals apiece, accounting for nearly 62 percent of the team’s total scoring while 15 different players found the back of the net over the course of the season. The Battery locked up the No. 2 seed on Oct. 24 with a 1-0 win against Indy Eleven, courtesy of a 78th-minute flying header by Swan off a cross from Langston Blackstock.
Rhode Island counters with a defense that has proven remarkably disciplined in the opening 45 minutes. RIFC has not conceded a first-half goal in seven consecutive matches dating back to Sept. 19. In its regular-season finale on Oct. 24, RIFC held a halftime lead against Hartford Athletic before dropping a 2-1 decision, with defender Karifa Yao scoring his third goal of the season.
