Southeast Corridor Secures Major Regional Healthcare Hub

Construction is underway in southeast Sioux Falls on a nearly 30,000-square-foot combined medical clinic and retail pharmacy, siouxfalls.business reported.

The Sanford 57th & Veterans Parkway Clinic broke ground earlier in October 2026. Designed by TSP as architect and built by Fiegen Construction as general contractor, the facility is scheduled to open its doors to patients in August 2028.

Advanced Diagnostic Technology Anchors New Facility

The project sits within the Founder’s Crossing development established by the Good Samaritan Society, an organization that is part of Sanford Health. Andy Munce, president and CEO of Sanford Sioux Falls, noted that while the layout shares a concept with the health system’s existing development at Madison Street and Veterans Parkway, this new site includes significant diagnostic upgrades.

Most standard regional clinics offer basic X-ray capabilities. This location, however, will house advanced imaging technology including CT and ultrasound services, alongside 34 exam rooms, five treatment rooms, radiology, therapy, and walk-linker lab services.

“This will have acute care and service areas, as well as advanced imaging,” Munce said, according to the sourced report. “Most clinics will have X-ray, and we’ll have CT and ultrasound services to help the diagnostic capabilities of the clinic and acute care.”

Relieving Pressure on Existing Regional Hubs

The clinical scope spans acute care, family medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology. By integrating walk-in acute care services directly into the southeast corridor, the facility aims to alleviate patient volume pressures at the next closest location located at 26th Street and Sycamore Avenue.

Lewis Drug and Sanford Health Join Senior Campus

A Lewis Drug location will be attached directly to the clinic, featuring a Sanford Health Equip space inside to provide prescription drugs and home medical equipment under one roof. Lewis Drug officially became a business unit of Sanford Health a year prior to the groundbreaking.

The physical structure links directly to the Good Samaritan – Founder’s Crossing campus. The first residents have already begun moving into independent living villas, while independent and assisted living apartments, memory care suites, short-term rehabilitation, and a long-term care center are slated to open over the next couple of years.

Long-Term Rooftop Strategy Meets Expanding Infrastructure

Sanford Health has held ownership of the land parcel for approximately 15 to 20 years, deploying what leadership describes as a rooftop strategy. While the main medical center in the core of town continues to handle subspecialty, surgical, and emergency room services, outlying hubs are designed to bring routine and acute care directly to growing regional populations as infrastructure expands.

That regional infrastructure includes ongoing work on Veterans Parkway, which is projected to extend from Interstate 90 to Western Avenue by late fall of 2028, with a final segment connecting Western to Interstate 29 scheduled for completion by 2029.
