Seattle Reign FC heads into Harrison, New Jersey this weekend for a high-stakes quarterfinal matchup against Gotham FC, keeping their postseason survival instincts sharp after beating Orlando 1-0 on Decision Day, reignfc.com reported.
The Playoff Stage at Sports Illustrated Stadium
The win-or-go-home fixture kicks off at 9:30 a.m. PT at Sports Illustrated Stadium. For fans watching from home, the match streams live across ABC, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ for subscribers, while local supporters can gather for an official watch party hosted at Rough & Tumble.
The regular season standings tell a clear story of the uphill climb facing the visitors. Gotham FC locked down the number one seed with an 18-5-7 record totaling 61 points, while Seattle clawed into the eighth playoff spot with a 14-11-5 ledger worth 47 points.
Chasing History After Icahn Stadium Heartbreak
These two sides met twice during the 2026 regular season, most notably in July at Icahn Stadium in New York, where the Reign dropped a narrow 3-2 decision following a two-and-a-half-hour weather delay. Seattle capitalized early through a 12th-minute penalty conversion by Mia Fishel—drawn by Maddie Mercado—before Mercado doubled the advantage just seven minutes later.
Momentum swung hard down the stretch. Esther González put Gotham on the board in the 81st minute before leveling the score four minutes into stoppage time. Rose Lavelle then struck the game-winner in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
All-time, the series sits dead even. Both clubs boast 12 wins apiece alongside 10 draws, having traded 46 goals each. Their past postseason clashes carry heavy baggage, highlighted by the 2023 NWSL Championship in San Diego where the Reign fell 2-1 to Gotham.
Roster Dynamics and Key Players to Watch
Jess Fishlock brings her postseason experience back to the pitch, acting as a leader and ability to coach in real time from the field during high-pressure moments. Alongside her, Maddie Mercado reached 10 regular-season goals in 2026, including an NWSL-best five headed goals and 40 crosses.
Gotham counters with an attack anchored by Jaedyn Shaw and Sam Kerr. Shaw returned from injury to tally 11 goal contributions this season, while Kerr added eight. Sixteen of Gotham’s final 23 goals recorded this season featured a contribution from one of the two players.
Sunday’s quarterfinal determines who advances deeper into the NWSL bracket, testing whether Seattle’s roster can break through against the league’s top-seeded side.
