Tara Countryman Reflects on Student Ambassador Life and Campus Housing at Western Wyoming College
In a first-person essay, Tara Countryman, a student ambassador graduating in December with a General Studies degree focusing on Psychology and Communications, detailed her academic and residential experiences at Western Wyoming College. Countryman’s reflections trace her journey from arriving as an incoming freshman in Snowy Range Hall to moving into Wind River Hall as she prepares to transfer to Southwest Baptist University to pursue her bachelor’s degree.
Living on campus shaped much of Countryman’s college experience, providing immediate access to a community of peers. During her freshman year in Snowy Range Hall, she was initially unsure about her assigned roommate. That uncertainty dissolved as the two became lifelong friends, sharing daily routines like grocery shopping and dining together before the roommate graduated to serve as a missionary.
Building Community Through Residence Life and Shared Spaces
Residential life brought unexpected moments of connection. Countryman recounted how building-wide fire alarms in Snowy Range Hall introduced her to neighboring students along her hallway—friendships that persisted into subsequent academic terms. When time permitted solitude, she occupied herself with room decorating, nail care, movie watching, and managing coursework. For broader social interaction, she utilized the commons room in Rocky Mountain Hall to play the piano.

Spiritual and social circles also formed outside the classroom. Countryman, a Baptist Christian, regularly attended Sunday night scripture study sessions in Wind River Hall, finding common ground despite differing religious backgrounds.
Transitioning to Southwest Baptist University
As her time in Wyoming concludes, Countryman now resides in Wind River Hall, noting the convenience of having her own kitchen space and privacy. Alongside completing her final semester at Western Wyoming College, she is preparing for her next chapter in Bolivar, Missouri, where she has secured employment part-time at Maurices while working toward her four-year degree at Southwest Baptist University.
