Temazcal Tequila Cantina and Jack's Coal Fired Pizza Close in Burlington

Northern suburban diners lost two neighborhood mainstays at once as Temazcal Tequila Cantina and Jack’s Coal Fired Pizza at 2 Wall Street in Burlington quietly shuttered their doors, Boston Restaurant Talk reported.

The simultaneous closures mark another major contraction for Rebel Restaurants, the Boston-based hospitality group behind both brands. While a phone call to Jack’s confirmed it is no longer in business, online checks of Temazcal’s official platform revealed that the Wall Street location has been stripped from its active venue directory entirely.

The hospitality group still maintains operational Temazcal spots in Dedham and Lynnfield, alongside Tony C’s locations in Burlington, Peabody, and Somerville, but the map is shrinking fast.

A Wave of Shuttered Doors Across the Region

The Burlington double-closure compounds a punishing year for Rebel Restaurants. Back on January 31, the company lost its original 2011 Temazcal flagship at 250 Northern Ave. in Boston’s Seaport District after landlord Lincoln Property Company declined to renew the lease, a move that triggered more than 80 layoffs alongside the simultaneous shutdown of a sister Tony C’s location, according to Hoodline.

Weeks before the Burlington spots went dark, the chain also permanently closed its Framingham restaurant at 161 Worcester Road. Operating out of a 7,200-square-foot retail building acquired in January 2020 by Campanelli in a joint venture with TriGate Capital, that Route 9 fixture had served the MetroWest community since 2018 before following the Seaport location into history.

What Remains on the Map

As patrons look for alternatives, surviving outposts of the tequila-focused brand continue to operate in Lynnfield and Dedham. The broader corporate footprint also includes the active Tony C’s Sports Bar & Grill locations, keeping the Rebel Restaurants name alive in Burlington, Peabody, and Somerville.

Yet the loss of two adjacent concepts at 2 Wall Street leaves a noticeable vacancy in Burlington’s dining corridor. With no official business rationale announced for the latest suburban pullbacks, local diners are left watching to see how the hospitality group restructures its portfolio next.
