The Trinidad and Tobago hockey fraternity is mourning the loss of former national player Suzette “Suzie” Pierre and long-serving administrator Sean Olton, both of whom passed away within the same week.
A Double Blow for Island Clubs and Governing Bodies
The double blow has reverberated across local clubs, institutions, and governing bodies, highlighting the deep familial and community roots that sustain the sport across the islands.
Suzette Pierre’s Legacy on the International Stage
Pierre represented the country on the international stage during the 1990s and maintained active ties with several local entities, including UWITCO, Raiders Sports, and the TTPS Hockey Section.
Remembered for her lively personality and warmth, she remained a familiar figure in the hockey community long after her playing days ended, and she was the mother of national player and captain Mickel Pierre.
Sean Olton’s Decades of Administrative Service
Olton shaped the sport through years of dedicated administrative service to the Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board (TTHB). A member of the Notre Dame Hockey Club, Olton served as Assistant Secretary of the TTHB Executive Committee and chaired its Competitions Committee from 2008 to 2016.
A Family Tied Deeply to Trinidad and Tobago Hockey
His commitment to the game extended directly into his household. His daughters Elise, Amie, Samantha, Saarah, and Kaitlyn all represented the Magnolia Hockey Club, while his son Joshua played for the Fatima Hockey Club.
In a statement regarding the losses, the TTHB noted that Pierre and Olton’s contributions—whether on the field, in the boardroom, or through their families’ continued participation—form an essential part of the fabric of Trinidad and Tobago hockey.
