Intruder Targets Sorority House With Rock
University of Utah students celebrated Halloween under heightened campus security after an intruder followed four students, attempted to enter a sorority house, and shattered a window with a rock.
The incident occurred Thursday. Campus officials tightened security protocols across Greek Row and coordinated directly with the Salt Lake City Police Department to address the breach.
Student Expresses Shock Following Campus Intrusion
University of Utah sophomore Sam Kofoed described the immediate reaction among peers upon learning of the intrusion.
“When I first read about it, I was honestly shocked, because I never thought something like that would ever happen,” Kofoed said. “But it really brings it to light, that no matter what there’s always a possibility something would happen.”
Police Confirm Juvenile Suspect Identified
Law enforcement confirmed that the individual responsible for the property damage has since been identified as a juvenile. Salt Lake City Police Lt. Steve Wooldridge explained the status of the ongoing inquiry.
“We understand that there may have been some property damage that was there, and the University of Utah put out some information, looking for who this person was, because they didn’t know who he is,” Wooldridge said. “That person has been identified and the investigation is continuing and there’s no threat to the public.”
Greek Row Maintains Precautionary Measures
Despite assurances from local law enforcement that the juvenile suspect has been identified and the immediate public threat has abated, students inside Greek life organizations stated they plan to maintain precautionary measures through the remainder of the weekend.
“The more people, the more likely something may happen so just making sure there’s enough people that can help out if something does go wrong is something that we take very seriously to make sure everyone is safe and everyone is having a good time,” Kofoed said.
Active Patrols Scheduled for Weekend
To support these student safety efforts, university administrators announced that campus special events officers will maintain active patrols along Greek Row throughout the weekend.
