“The production is an opportunity to showcase the remarkable singing, dancing, and storytelling talents of local young people while sharing a story whose message reaches across generations. It is a not-to-be-missed production!” That is how Wild Horse Children’s Theater Executive Director Carol Scott described the upcoming presentation of Disney’s Newsies, Jr.
The Wild Horse Children’s Theater Presents Disney’s Newsies, Jr. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall for two weekends only, running on December 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13. Based on the Disney film and inspired by the real-life Newsboys’ Strike of 1899, the youth adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway phenomenon features a score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Harvey Fierstein.
Newsboys Spark Movement Against Unfair Conditions
The defy-the-odds musical follows a scrappy band of New York City newsboys who become unlikely heroes when powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsies’ expense. Charismatic Jack Kelly rallies fellow workers from across the city to stand together, sparking a movement against unfair conditions that grows into a powerful call for fairness, dignity, and a voice for children working in unfair conditions.
Performances feature soaring songs, high-energy choreography, and numbers including “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” “Santa Fe,” and “King of New York.”
Theater Partners with Foundation for Food Drive
During the run, the theater company is teaming up with the Whyld Foundation to support local kids. Attendees who bring a non-perishable food item, such as protein bars, crackers, or cereal, will receive a $1.00 off concessions coupon.
