A 30-year-old woman was struck and killed by a New York City Department of Sanitation truck while crossing a Brooklyn intersection, abc7NY reported. The collision, which occurred during the early evening hours, left the victim with severe body trauma before she succumbed to her injuries at a nearby hospital.
According to preliminary findings released by law enforcement, the fatal incident unfolded at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The victim, identified as Siobhan Lynch of Coney Island, was navigating the intersection at Bay Parkway and Cropsey Avenue in the Bath Beach neighborhood.
The Fatal Turn at Bay Parkway
Lynch was actively crossing the street from the southwest corner to the southeast corner of Bay Parkway when an eastbound Sanitation Department garbage truck struck her while making a right turn. The truck’s operator remained at the scene following the impact.
The force of the collision propelled Lynch several feet before she struck the pavement, resulting in severe physical trauma. Officers from the NYPD’s 62nd Precinct quickly responded to the location. Emergency medical services rushed Lynch to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she could not be saved and was pronounced dead.

The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad has taken over the active inquiry into the crash. Representatives from the city’s sanitation agency addressed the tragedy through a public statement.
“This is a terrible tragedy, and our thoughts are with the family of the victim. DSNY is assisting NYPD with their ongoing investigation,” a Sanitation Department spokesperson said.
