The Tennessee Titans abruptly released veteran defensive tackle Jordan Elliott on Tuesday following a practice facility incident on October 15, 2026. According to multiple reports, Elliott went to his vehicle to retrieve a firearm after an on-field argument with teammate JC Latham, prompting a de-escalation by John Franklin-Myers.
The October 15 Practice Facility Incident
The events leading to Jordan Elliott’s dismissal began during a Thursday practice on October 15, 2026. Elliott grew frustrated with a Titans teammate during a competitive session, a flashpoint that coaches and players noted often occurs among linemen battling in close quarters. However, the frustration did not stay on the field.

Elliott stormed out of the locker room upset following the practice. Multiple reports confirm that he walked over to the players’ parking garage next to the team’s facility and attempted to retrieve a firearm from his car.
Veteran defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers stepped in to de-escalate the situation before any violence occurred. Reporting from outlets including ESPN indicates that the firearm never left Elliott’s parking spot, and surveillance cameras captured the entire episode at the facility.

Titans Release Jordan Elliott After Facility Incident
The Titans kept the incident quiet for several days, making Elliott inactive for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts while head coach Robert Saleh told reporters the player was dealing with personal stuff. On Tuesday, the organization made the move official by releasing the defensive tackle without immediate elaboration.
On Thursday, October 15th, there was an incident at our team facility involving Jordan Elliott. Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster. We will have no further comment on the matter.

The franchise signed Elliott to a two-year, $8 million deal during the offseason. He had followed Saleh to Nashville after playing for the San Francisco 49ers. Through the first five games of 2026, Elliott had recorded 11 tackles for the Titans.

Coach Robert Saleh Defends Elliott’s Character
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, head coach Robert Saleh addressed the release directly. While acknowledging that the team had no choice under league rules, Saleh strongly defended his former player’s character and pointed to pressures players face off the field.
I will stand on the table for Jordan’s character. He’s a good man. Had a terrible lapse in judgment that I recognize as a call for help more than a criminal act. It’s unfortunate the way it went down.

Saleh added that Elliott had never committed a crime in his entire life and referenced wider mental health concerns across professional football. Saleh also advocated for Elliott’s football abilities to the rest of the league, telling reporters that any team in need of a run-stopping defensive tackle for a playoff push should examine what he offers.

JC Latham Denies Prior Conflict with Elliott
Right tackle JC Latham, who was involved in the initial practice altercation with Elliott, told reporters on Wednesday that there had never been any prior bad blood between them, describing the entire sequence as an unfortunate situation.
There ain’t never been no bad blood between us two. We were here on the summer getting treatment. Before that, we hung out whenever we were in the same city together. We actually had never had an argument leading up to it.

The Metro Nashville Police Department confirmed to reporters that no police reports had been filed regarding the incident. However, the NFL prohibits firearm possession at club facilities, stadiums, and team hotels and on team planes or buses. The league confirmed that the matter is under review.
Defensive Line Adjustments for Tennessee
On the field, the Titans must quickly adapt to the loss of a key rotational defensive lineman in the middle of the season. The team prepares to host the Cleveland Browns.
