Donald and Stephen Glover to Develop Live-Action ‘PUBG’ Series for Netflix
Netflix is developing a live-action series based on the battle royale video game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (Variety reported), with Donald Glover attached to star, write, direct, and executive produce. The project marks an expansion of the streaming platform’s video game adaptation slate.
Donald Glover is joined by his brother and frequent collaborator Stephen Glover, who will write and executive produce the series alongside him. The pair previously worked together on the FX series Atlanta, where Donald created and starred while Stephen served as a writer and executive producer across its four-season run. Their creative partnership also extends to the Amazon series Swarm and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, as well as the musical film Guava Island.
Executive Producers Join the Battle Royale Adaptation
Michael Schaefer representing Neon TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, alongside Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee from LV3H—the entertainment arm of PUBG creator Krafton—round out the executive producer team for the venture. The game itself was originally published by Krafton in 2017 and is widely credited with popularizing the format where 100 players drop onto an island in a last-man-standing deathmatch, setting the stage for titles like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone (whats-on-netflix.com noted).

Instead, the game drops large numbers of players into maps featuring weapons and vehicles for survival. Nearly ten years after its initial release, PUBG continues to maintain a substantial daily active user base, holding seven Guinness World Records.
Prior Animated Adaptation Preceded the Live Action Project
This live-action endeavor changes the direction of the franchise on the service, following a July 2021 announcement by Krafton regarding an animated PUBG series spearheaded by Castlevania and Devil May Cry producer Adi Shankar that was widely reported to head to Netflix, even though that particular initiative has shown minimal public progress since then (whats-on-netflix.com reported).

The PUBG series joins a growing roster of video game properties currently in production at Netflix. The streamer’s slate includes a live-action Assassin’s Creed TV series that wrapped filming recently, a live-action Gears of War film, and animated series based on Minecraft and Clash of Clans.
No casting details beyond Donald Glover or an official production timeline have been announced.
