Range Rover is moving beyond its traditional SUV roots with the upcoming launch of the GT, a new vehicle built on the company’s electrified EMA architecture. Previewed for the first time this year, the model represents a shift toward a car-like design while retaining the brand’s signature all-terrain capability.
Defining the GT Formula
The transition marks a departure from the high-riding, boxy silhouettes that have long defined the brand. The project is the culmination of several years of development focused on reinterpreting the brand’s core identity for a new platform.

The GT relies on the company’s third electrifiable platform, known as EMA (Electrified Modular Architecture). This system serves as a sibling to the existing MLA platform used in current Range Rover models and the forthcoming JEA platform, which Jaguar is currently developing for its own four-door grand tourer, the Type 01. By utilizing the EMA architecture, the GT is designed to offer a blend of electric vehicle performance and traditional all-terrain capability, a move intended to round out the company’s portfolio for diverse customer needs.
Interior Design and User Experience
Designers have opted for an ultraminimalist
approach for the GT’s cabin, which deviates significantly from the interior layouts found in the company’s existing SUV lineup. The interior features a blend of varied textiles and materials rather than the more traditional, heavy use of leather or wood trim. Rear seating configurations are modular, allowing owners to choose between a two-seat setup or a more conventional three-seat bench.
Technology integration in the GT prioritizes standard features over excessive screen real estate. Unlike many modern luxury vehicles that emphasize a dedicated front-passenger display, the GT uses a main instrument cluster and an infotainment touchscreen, both featuring OLED technology. The brand has also opted to make the head-up display a standard inclusion across the range.
Market Positioning and Future Availability
While the company has provided a glimpse of the interior, the exterior design remains hidden under camouflage. Officials have indicated that more information regarding the production version of the vehicle is expected later this year. The strategy relies on maintaining the brand’s reputation for first-class long-haul refinement
while attracting buyers who might otherwise look toward traditional sedans or sports cars.

Unresolved Design and Performance Questions
Furthermore, the final exterior styling—specifically how the designers have reconciled the functional requirements of an all-terrain vehicle with the aerodynamic necessities of a grand tourer—will not be confirmed until the company removes the camouflage later this year.
