Dublin-based burger chain Bunsen Burger has been ranked as having the second-best burger in the world by travel site Big 7, rte.ie reported.
The global ranking, compiled by travel blog Big 7 after evaluating entries from international destinations, placed the Irish establishment just behind New York City’s Hamburger America. The list evaluated criteria including the patty, build, signature creations, diner reviews, atmosphere, and value for money, according to extra.ie.
- Bunsen Burger secured the global runner-up spot in Big 7’s World’s 50 Greatest Burgers list.
- The Dublin institution, founded in 2013 by cousins Tom and Finn, operates locations across Dublin, Cork, and Belfast.
- New York City’s Hamburger America claimed the top spot in the global rankings.
Simplicity and Supply Chain Discipline Drive Global Recognition
Big 7 highlighted the Dublin restaurant’s core strategy of prioritizing simplicity and quality over an expansive menu. Diners receive a menu famously stripped back to the essentials—so much so that it fits on a business card—featuring freshly ground beef, customized buns, pickles, cheese, and a minimal selection of toppings, extra.ie reported.

Behind that minimalist consumer presentation lies a tightly managed supply chain. Bunsen handles its beef production in-house daily, grinding Black Aberdeen Angus sourced from farms in the Midlands of Ireland by FX Buckley. The supply network extends to local bakeries in Naas, County Kildare, for buns, while potatoes for shoestring fries are sourced through Smithfield fruit market veteran John Madden.
International Standings Across the Global Top Ten
The extensive international ranking captured burger styles ranging from classic American cheeseburgers and Japanese Wagyu creations to Scandinavian reindeer patties and trendy smash burgers. Following the top two spots occupied by Hamburger America and Bunsen Burger, the remaining positions in the top ten feature establishments from several global markets.
Black Bear Burger in London and Smash Things in Tokyo secured third and fourth place respectively. Additional entries rounding out the top ten include Eat at ROBs in Sydney, High Joint in Dubai, Bleecker Burger in London, Uniburger in Montreal, Fergburger in Queenstown, and RoyAl’s Chicken & Burgers in Perth, according to extra.ie.
