Crown prosecutors presented no evidence at the start of a trial in Dartmouth, leading a Nova Scotia judge to dismiss a sexual assault charge against 54-year-old Trailer Park Boys actor Mike Smith. The actor, who plays Bubbles on the sitcom, plans to resume his corporate responsibilities.

Judge Jill Hartlen halted the three-day trial after crown prosecutors declined to present any evidence against the 54-year-old performer in provincial court in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, according to reporting from public broadcaster CBC News. These proceedings involving Trailer Park Boys actor Mike Smith came to a close following that decision.

Prosecutors Drop Charge Because Threshold Is Unmet

Prosecutor Bryson McDonald told reporters outside the courthouse that the decision to offer no evidence followed an evaluation by his office based on the Crown’s assessment that the prosecution standard has no longer been met. McDonald did not elaborate further on why the threshold failed to hold, though he confirmed that prosecutors maintained regular contact with the complainant throughout the legal process.

A publication ban remains in effect to protect the identity of the complainant. In a statement released through the public broadcaster, the complainant explained that the trial ended because she was unwilling to sacrifice my mental health by taking the stand to testify.
