Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launched its third year of post-launch support with Anniversary Update 2, introducing a Chaos PvE siege mode, a self-imposed debuff system, and a heavily requested one-handed melee weapon across multiple PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.
Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive marked the co-op shooter’s second anniversary by deploying Patch 15, bringing a sweeping set of free additions alongside the official roadmap for the game’s third year of updates. The release shifts focus toward endgame variety, enemy perspectives, and expanded class options. For players on console, the release shows up as patch version 1.015 or 1.015.000.
Chaos Siege Mode and Combat Additions in Patch 15
The headline addition for the anniversary patch is Chaos Siege Mode, which lets players take control of Chaos Space Marines in PvE matches for the first time. Operating outside of random PvP assignments, the mode places players as Heretic Astartes fighting against Tyranids, Imperial Guardsmen, and loyalist Space Marines across two initial Siege sectors set on Avarax, with a third sector promised for later release. From the trailer, the playable Chaos factions include the Death Guard, Night Lord, Word Eater, and what appears to be an Iron Warrior.
Previously, selecting Chaos Space Marines in PvP Eternal War matches was completely random, leaving players with no control over when they would fight on the side of Chaos. Chaos Siege Mode resolves this limitation by ensuring players are on the Chaos side from the very start alongside all their allies. Usable by the Tactical, Assault, Bulwark, and Techmarine classes, the one-handed Thunder Hammer is faster and can be charged for area-of-effect strikes.
The update also debuts the Crucible System, a new endgame PvE mode available for level 25 classes that utilizes a separate matchmaking pool from standard PvE. Launched through PvE Operations, it tasks players with applying Penances—personal debuffs and negative modifiers—to make missions more challenging in exchange for Crucible XP and progress toward Lamenters armor sets.

Tactical Class Gets Skill Tree Overhaul and New Weapons
The Tactical class received a significant skill tree overhaul designed to widen build flexibility, along with an expansion of its melee weapon arsenal to include the one-handed Thunder Hammer, power axe, and power sword. Close Targeting was replaced with Vital Data, allowing the scanning of an Extremis or Terminus-level enemy to restore 50% of an Auspex Scan charge, while Vital Data’s former slot is now occupied by Improved Efficiency, causing Auspex Scan to recharge 25% faster.
Heroic weapon and armor variants have also been added to the Armoury. Three new Heroic weapons can be unlocked, including the Power Axe and the Auto Bolt Rifle. Season Pass 3 kicked off with the Space Wolves Champion Pack, featuring a Wolf Guard Battle Leader armor set and a Fenrisian storm shield for the Bulwark class, accompanied by the Exorcists Cosmetic Pack.
Apothecary Class Arrives in Year 3 Content Plan
Looking beyond the anniversary patch, the newly unveiled Year 3 content plan spans late 2026 into 2027 with five major updates designed to deepen long-term replayability.
The most anticipated milestone on the 2027 calendar is the arrival of the Apothecary class in Patch 17 during the first quarter of next year.

“We’ve been following all your speculations ever since we teased the arrival of a new class, and you certainly had plenty of theories… and the majority of you were right! Today, we’re finally revealing the truth: the Apothecary is joining the ranks with Patch 17 in the first quarter of 2027! We’ll disclose more info later, so stay tuned!”

Meanwhile, game director Dmitry Grigorenko noted that voice packs are no longer planned, though additional cosmetic options for classes like the Techmarine remain on the way.
