28 Months Prison for Mexican National in Las Vegas Illegal Reentry Case

Josue Ivan Orozco-Becerra, a Mexican national, has been sentenced to a combined 28 months in prison after being discovered in the United States for a third time. Chief United States District Judge Andrew P. Gordan ordered the sentence, which consists of 24 months for illegally reentering the United States and an additional four months for violating the terms of supervised release from a previous conviction.

Orozco-Becerra will serve three years of supervised release following his prison term, after which he will be deported to Mexico for a third time.

Orozco-Becerra Has Prior Deportations and Violent Felony Convictions

This marks the second time Orozco-Becerra has been convicted of being a deported alien found unlawfully in the United States. He had previously been removed from the country on two occasions: once on or about December 17, 2019, and again on April 19, 2022.

Court documents reveal a history of violent felony convictions, including:

  • Battery with Use of a Deadly Weapon
  • Robbery with Use of a Deadly Weapon
  • Conspiracy to Commit Robbery
  • Deported Alien Found Unlawfully in the United States

Drug Distribution Charges

Immigration officials located Orozco-Becerra on January 28, 2025, during a joint operation in Las Vegas with the Drug Enforcement Administration. As a result of that operation, he currently faces pending charges in the U.S. District Court, District of Hawaii, for Possession with Intent to Distribute and Conspiracy to Distribute controlled substances, specifically methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Operation Take Back America Targets Transnational Criminal Organizations

The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada and investigated by the ICE Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office. This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative focused on eliminating transnational criminal organizations and repelling illegal immigration.
