Bennett's Curse haunted house seeks new home after Eastpoint Mall closure

Bennett’s Curse is open Friday through Sunday until Nov. 7 at the Eastpoint Mall in Dundalk, marking the final season for the haunted attraction at that location. The business is currently searching for a new home after spending a decade at the mall. The closure of the mall is ending the attraction’s ten-year run at the site.

Founded 26 years ago by Allan and Jill Bennett, the attraction has operated at several sites, including Arundel Mills. The business began after Allan Bennett, while volunteering at a haunted hayride, told Jill Bennett he wanted to create a haunted house. This upcoming transition will mark the fifth move for the business. Co-owner Jill Bennett noted that finding a suitable replacement is difficult because the attraction exceeds 20,000 square feet and requires a landlord who supports small businesses and a site with ample parking. She said it is a struggle to run a small business today and hopes for a landlord who recognizes the joy the attraction brings to the community.

Search for a New Location

The owners have begun working with Baltimore County Economic Development to identify potential sites. While the future remains uncertain, Bennett stated she is hopeful and excited to see how the attraction might transform in its next step within the Maryland area. She noted that leaving the area is sad because they are leaving a community.

The move has already impacted the business, as some popular seasonal events will be put on hold. Bennett has asked the public to reach out if they know of any buildings or places that would be a fit for the attraction. She stated, “It’s not just a haunted house,” but a passion and family tradition she wants to share with others.

Diverse Team of Actors Earns National Recognition

The attraction relies on a diverse team of actors, including bankers, accountants, EMTs, and nurses. One actor has been with the organization for 24 of its 26 years of operation. Bennett described the team as a family and a place where people from various professions can “let out your stress.” She noted that because of the masks, visitors would never know who the actors are.

The business was one of 20 national nominees and secured the second-place spot following weeks of public voting. Jill Bennett said the team is “incredibly grateful” for the recognition.

Final Season Details

To conclude its tenure at the mall, the attraction has introduced new sound and lighting effects and additional monsters. Bennett said the team intends to “go out with a bang this season.” Bennett’s Curse is open to the public every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through Nov. 7.
