Former President Bill Clinton Set to Campaign for Scott Colom in Tupelo
Former President Bill Clinton will travel to Mississippi to campaign for Democratic Senate candidate Scott Colom just days before the November 3 general election, WAPT reported. Colom is locked in a heated race with Republican incumbent Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith.
The visit comes as national figures converge on Mississippi in the final stretch of the election cycle. President Donald Trump spoke at a rally for Hyde-Smith in Corinth on Monday, and former Vice President Kamala Harris attended two events with Colom in Mississippi last week, according to WAPT. Colom’s campaign also told Mississippi Today that South Carolina U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn and former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg have made campaign stops for the Democratic nominee.
Clinton will appear at an event Friday in Tupelo alongside Colom and other Democrats, including James Carville and Mitch Landrieu. Specific details of Friday’s visit have not yet been released.
Colom Focuses Closing Message on Economic Concerns
Colom’s campaign is centering its closing message on economic concerns. In a statement provided to WAPT and Mississippi Today, Colom said he is honored by Clinton’s upcoming visit to highlight issues impacting everyday Mississippians.
“I am honored President Clinton is coming to Tupelo to highlight the issues that matter most for Mississippians, from the rising cost of gas and groceries to the negative impact tariffs are having on our farmers and small businesses,” Colom said. “Those are the same issues Trump voters talked to me about when I walked the line of the Trump rally on Monday, and it’s why I know Mississippians are ready to fire Cindy High Prices on November 3rd.”
Clinton last visited Tupelo for a campaign event in 2008, speaking at a fish fry to support his wife, then-U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, during her presidential primary campaign. He also traveled to Jackson in 2016 to campaign for his wife, former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, Mississippi Today reported.

Republicans have pushed back against the late-campaign Democratic visits. In a statement reported by Mississippi Today, Hyde-Smith’s campaign manager, Jake Monssen, criticized the former president’s record and associations.
“Americans and Mississippians are tired of being pandered to by the hypocritical elite like the Clinton family,” Monssen said. “It’s a shame Scott couldn’t get Hillary to join him on the campaign trail.”
With the election scheduled for November 3, both campaigns are making final pushes to secure voter turnout in a race that has drawn a barrage of national attention and outside spending.
