Camryn Manheim Joins 9-1-1: Nashville Season 2 in Recurring Role

Emmy winner Camryn Manheim has joined the cast of ABC’s 9-1-1: Nashville for its second season, Deadline reported. The high-octane procedural, which premiered its second season on October 15, has tapped the Practice veteran for a key recurring role that brings fresh trouble to Music City.

Stepping Into the Call Center

Manheim will portray Dr. Marcia Zellner, described as a brilliant yet emotionally complex clinical therapist and crisis manager. She arrives at the call center to support dispatchers grappling with an elusive antagonist known as the Pharaoh killer. This serial assailant has been terrorizing Nashville with a series of distinct Biblical Plagues across the city.

However, Deadline noted that Dr. Zellner harbors a dark grudge and proves to be far more twisted and conniving than anyone can possibly imagine. Across the first two episodes of Season 2, the city has already faced a barrage of horrors including murder hornets, a flood of blood, and boils. TV Insider reported that the new Metro detective, Rogue, played by Ryan Phillippe, is tasked with connecting the clues left at the scenes with the help of firefighter Ryan, played by Michael Provost.

Dr. Zellner Joins Cast as Detective Rogue Hunts Killer

The arrival of Dr. Zellner injects fresh psychological friction into an ensemble cast that includes Chris O’Donnell as Don, Jessica Capshaw, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, LeAnn Rimes, Michael Provost, Juani Feliz, Hailey Kilgore, Hunter McVey, and Ryan Phillippe. According to TV Insider, detective Rogue becomes consumed by an obsession to stop the killer, living and breathing the case as the death toll climbs.

Phillippe teased that the unfolding episodes hold plenty of surprises for viewers. “This serial killer is unpredictable,” Phillippe told TV Insider. “Even though he’s using the Biblical Plagues, they’re his version of it, so they don’t always end up working out the way you would imagine.”

Meanwhile, friction between Don and Rogue begins to shift as the season progresses. O’Donnell told TV Insider that once their investigative interests align, working together becomes considerably easier.

A Storied Television Legacy

Manheim brings television experience to the ABC procedural. She is best known for her Emmy and Golden Globe-winning performance as defense attorney Ellenor Frutt on the legal drama The Practice. Her television credits also feature roles in Law & Order, Ghost Whisperer, Ally McBeal, Criminal Minds, and The L Word, among many others. Outside of her new television arc, she is currently filming the sequel to Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.

9-1-1: Nashville is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television. Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and showrunner Rashad Raisani serve as executive producers alongside Chris O’Donnell, Brad Buecker, Brad Falchuk, and Angela Bassett. The series airs Thursday nights on ABC.
