Ryan Prescott Begins Filming New Movie Project Waif Away From Coronation Street
Coronation Street actor Ryan Prescott has stepped away from the soap’s cobbles to begin filming Waif, a new feature project where he stars as a drifting art curator in east London.
The production follows Prescott’s character alongside a single mother, played by Helen Foster, as they navigate life on their own terms amidst the skateparks, art openings, and guitar shops of east London. The film’s cast also features Jason Flemyng from Pierre’s, Dexter Fletcher known for Love at First Sight, and Robert Gilbert from Big Boys. Waif is written and directed by Rocky Rodriguez Jr., whose previous work includes Siblings.

Rocky Rodriguez Jr. Examines Responsibility and Conformity
Speaking previously about the project, writer and director Rocky Rodriguez Jr. explained to Screen International that Waif asks whether responsibility must mean conformity and whether a person can grow without surrendering the spirit that first made them shine. Waif asks whether responsibility must mean conformity,
Rodriguez said, adding, Whether a person can grow without surrendering the spirit that first made them shine.
Prescott has anchored his schedule around the long-running ITV soap since 2020, portraying Ryan Connor through a series of high-stakes dramatic plots. Over the past few years, the character survived a severe acid attack, struggled with steroid abuse, and dealt with online sex work.
Last month, the actor expressed a desire for a lighter narrative shift for his character upon returning to the soap, pitching prospective scenes involving his on-screen family. We had ideas of Lisa and Carla coming in from a weekend away and me and Betsy having tinfoil hats on and having watched the series Ancient Aliens,
Prescott told Inside Soap, pointing toward a need for comic relief after a heavy twelve-month run for the household.
Coronation Street continues its regular broadcast schedule on weeknights at 8:30 pm on ITV1, alongside availability for streaming on ITVX.
