Daylight Saving Time 2026 Ends in Michigan When Clocks Fall Back

Residents across the Lansing area are preparing to turn their clocks back one hour as Daylight Saving Time officially ends for 2026. At 2 a.m. local time on Sunday, November 1, the first Sunday in the month, clocks will drop back, returning standard time and pushing both sunrise and sunset an hour earlier.

The seasonal shift provides an extra hour of sleep Sunday morning for many residents. While the change happens automatically on smartphones, tablets, computers, and smart televisions, household residents will need to manually adjust analog timepieces, along with certain digital alarm clocks, vehicle dashboards, and kitchen appliance displays before heading to bed on Halloween night, October 31, per the University of Colorado Boulder.

The Evolution of the November Switch

The timing of the autumn time change has not always fallen in November. From 1987 through 2006, the fall back adjustment took place on the final weekend of October.

Do We Fall Back in 2026? (Daylight Saving Time Ends November 1)

The schedule shifted after the passage of The Energy Policy Act of 2005. That legislation pushed the end of Daylight Saving Time back by roughly a week, marking the first time clocks fell back on the first Sunday of November in 2007.

A Rare Halloweekend Alignment

This weekend marks a rare calendar convergence. This is the first time since 2020 that Halloween and the end of Daylight Saving Time have fallen on the same weekend.

Daylight saving time begins clock

It will also be the last time Halloween coincides with the time change or falls on a Saturday until 2037. The intervening years—including leap years in 2028, 2032, and 2036—will shift the days of the week, causing Halloween to skip Saturday entirely for the next eleven years.

Looking Ahead to Spring

For those already eyeing the return of longer evening daylight, the dark winter months precede the next scheduled shift. Daylight Saving Time will return on Sunday, March 14, 2027. At 2 a.m. on that date, clocks will spring forward one hour, pushing sunrise and sunset an hour later into the evening.
