DEI Survey Results to be Presented by Concord Commission

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission will present the results of Concord’s Quadrennial DEI Community Survey on Thursday, October 29. The public presentation is scheduled from 5:00 to 6:30 PM at the Harvey Wheeler Community Center auditorium, located at 1276 Main St.

Town Manager Kerry Lafleur will join the Commission for the presentation, which will also be available for those joining virtually via Zoom. The event is intended to bring together residents and town staff to consider the next phase of the town’s DEI efforts.

Influence of Previous Survey Data

The Commission stated that the results of the previous survey directly influenced its activities over the last four years. Specifically, those findings led the group to focus on cultural programming and LGBTQ+ inclusion, translating community feedback into action and concrete priorities.

Role of the DEI Commission

Established by the Select Board in 2021, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission is charged with promoting inclusion throughout the town. Its mandate includes increasing dialog, understanding, and cooperation among residents of various racial, ethnic, socio-economic, religious, and cultural backgrounds.

To fulfill this mission, the committee gathers anonymous input from individuals who work, study, or reside in Concord to better understand their experiences. While individual privacy is maintained, the overall results are published on the Town of Concord’s website.

Determining Future Priorities

With the acquisition of new data, the Commission aims to use the October 29 presentation to determine the direction of its future work. These results are expected to shape the DEI priorities for Concord in the coming years.

It is unclear what specific priorities the new data will establish for the town's next phase of DEI efforts.
