Augusta Motorist Sentenced to Quarter-Century Behind Bars
A 41-year-old Georgia man is headed to prison for 25 years after a jury convicted him of trafficking 400 grams or more of methamphetamine.
A South Carolina judge handed down the sentence against Angelo Xzavier Allen of Augusta following a trial on Oct. 8.
Interstate 20 Traffic Stop Yields Hidden Drugs
The legal proceedings got underway on March 12, 2025, when police pulled over Allen’s car on Interstate 20 in Lexington County as he drove from Augusta toward Lexington.
Records provided by the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office state that Allen permitted authorities to look through his automobile, which belonged to him and contained no passengers. During the search, deputies discovered 491 grams of methamphetamine hidden under the front passenger seat.
Prosecutors Detail Trial Evidence of Planned Drug Transaction
At trial, prosecutors presented testimony showing Allen was traveling to Lexington County to complete a drug transaction.
Assistant Solicitor Player Long highlighted the law enforcement partnership following the verdict.
This conviction underscores our office’s commitment to working alongside law enforcement in protecting our community from the serious harms associated with the distribution of dangerous controlled substances.
Mandatory Minimum and Transfer to State Corrections
In South Carolina, trafficking drugs is designated as a severe, violent crime that mandates a minimum prison term of 25 years with zero eligibility for parole.
Allen’s past criminal history in the state of Georgia features guilty verdicts for drug crimes, weapons violations, and aggravated assault. At the moment police stopped him in Lexington County, he was serving probation stemming from that aggravated assault ruling. Allen has now been transported to the South Carolina Department of Corrections to begin serving his 25-year sentence.
