Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, according to Giants.com. The move came as the team prepares for its Week 8 bye, following a 27-21 overtime victory in Houston on Sunday. Tracy, who had scored three touchdowns in the last two games, sustained the injury with 5:10 left in the second quarter of that matchup. His absence follows the release of wide receiver Jason Brownlee and the signing of running back Gregory Desrosiers from the Chargers’ practice squad.
GM Confirms Non-Season-Ending Injury
During a bye week press conference, general manager Joe Schoen stated that Tracy’s hamstring injury is not season-ending. “This won’t be something that’s going to be long-term—fortunately,” Schoen said. Tracy, a fifth-round draft pick in 2024, has accumulated 2,260 yards from scrimmage and 13 total touchdowns this season. He became the third player in franchise history to exceed 1,000 scrimmage yards in each of his first two seasons, joining Odell Beckham Jr. and Saquon Barkley.
Roster Adjustments and Player Backgrounds
The Giants also added veteran defensive lineman Dean Lowry to their practice squad. Lowry, a 6-foot-6, 296-pound veteran, brings 132 games (85 starts) of NFL experience, including 16.5 sacks and 271 total tackles over his career. Meanwhile, Desrosiers, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound undrafted rookie, has yet to appear in an NFL game. He played 48 college games across Louisville, UMass, and Memphis, rushing for 791 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Running Back Depth Shifts Following Tracy Injury
Tracy’s injury occurs as the Giants hold a 4-2-1 record and lead the NFC East. In his absence, the team’s running back depth—comprising Cam Skattebo, Devin Singletary, and Gregory Desrosiers—has been in the spotlight. The Giants’ next game is scheduled for Week 9, with Tracy’s return timeline yet to be determined.
