Google commits to $17 billion Wyoming data center project
Google announced plans on November 6, 2026, to build its first data center in Wyoming, committing to a long-term $17 billion digital infrastructure initiative that partners with local energy providers in Laramie County.
Powering the facility near Cheyenne
American Electric Power, Tallgrass Energy, Black Hills Energy, Related Digital, and Bloom Energy have collaborated to create a novel power system for the site close to Cheyenne.
Bloom Energy builds 702-megawatt fuel cell system
At the center of the project is a commercial-scale, 702-megawatt fuel cell system featuring carbon capture and storage. Built by Bloom Energy, the natural gas-powered solid oxide fuel cells generate electricity electrochemically with high efficiency, low emissions, and minimal water use.
Tallgrass Energy sequesters captured carbon permanently
Captured carbon will be permanently sequestered at Tallgrass Energy’s Eastern Wyoming Sequestration Hub, lifting Google’s contracted carbon capture and storage capacity to nearly one gigawatt. To protect local municipal water supplies, the complex will rely on an air-cooling design instead of traditional water cooling.
Google funds required infrastructure upgrades
Company representatives confirmed that Google will pay for all its power consumption and fund required infrastructure upgrades following feedback gathered from over 200 Laramie County residents at a Cheyenne town hall. School District 1 and Laramie County are anticipated to receive a financial boost from the project in the form of property tax contributions totaling several hundred million dollars.

Google issues targeted grants for STEM programs
Google also plans to issue targeted grants for local K-12 STEM programs, entrepreneurial initiatives, and skilled trades training across the state. A joint Community Council is being established by Google and its project partners to collaborate directly with Cheyenne residents and municipal leaders on growth strategies and infrastructure pressures.
