To access unemployment benefits in Idaho, residents must complete an identity verification process through ID.me. This system, integrated into the Idaho Department of Labor (DOL) Claimant Portal, is used to ensure that only the verified claimant can access their benefits. The Idaho Department of Labor works with ID.me to create a secure identity verification process.

How the ID.me Integration Functions

For those already holding an ID.me Wallet, the transition is intended to be straightforward. When you go to the Idaho Department of Labor Claimant Portal, you select the option to sign in with ID.me. The system will then prompt you to authorize the sharing of your identity information with the state. By selecting “Allow,” you grant the Idaho DOL the necessary data to proceed with your claim. If you are a new user, you will be prompted to provide information, or otherwise, follow the prompts to verify your identity through ID.me’s self-service tools or via a video call with a Video Chat Agent.

ID.me manages the identity verification side of the equation. If you are struggling with your wallet or verifying your identity, the support channels provided by ID.me are your primary point of contact. Conversely, once your identity is confirmed, the Idaho Department of Labor takes over. Any questions regarding benefits or services you verified for should be directed toward the department, not the verification service.

The Post-Verification Workflow

Once you have successfully completed your verification, the process for filing a claim depends on your history with the portal. If you utilized a video chat agent to verify your identity, you must return to the Idaho Department Of Labor Unemployment Insurance portal and select the “File for Unemployment” option under the “Unemployment section.” From there, you will sign in using the email and password you gave ID.me and complete your multi-factor authentication.

Returning users will be prompted to review their profile and update their personal information before clicking the “Apply for Benefits” tab. New users will be guided through the creation of a claimant profile. In both instances, the system is designed to automatically redirect you to the application once the multi-factor authentication is complete. The state advises that before reaching out to the Idaho DOL for support, you should confirm that your verification was successful and that you have shared your information with the organization.

Why Verification Protocols Have Tightened

The Idaho Department of Labor works with ID.me to create a highly secure identity verification process that ensures you—and only you—will be able to access your benefits.
