Jamal Roberts Powers No. 23 Missouri Past Arkansas in 34-10 Southeastern Conference Road Win

Fayetteville, Ark. — When the final whistle sounded on Saturday night at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, No. 23 Missouri had turned a sluggish start into a commanding 34-10 Southeastern Conference victory over Arkansas, largely on the back of running back Jamal Roberts and a ferocious defensive display.

The numbers tell a stark story of efficiency meeting chaos. Roberts racked up 138 rushing yards on 23 carries, adding three receptions for 20 yards and scoring two total touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Missouri defense did something extraordinary, forcing four Arkansas turnovers and converting them into 24 points. For a Mizzou squad sitting at 6-2 overall and 3-2 in SEC play, the road win provides crucial momentum heading into a high-stakes matchup against No. 11 Texas on Saturday, Nov. 7.

Capitalizing on Chaos

For the first two quarters, offense was hard to come by for the visitors. In fact, as secsports.com reported, Missouri led 13-7 at halftime despite its offense failing to score a single point. Instead, the Tigers relied on special teams and defensive opportunism.

Late in the first quarter, with Arkansas facing a fourth-and-1 from its own 34-yard line and choosing not to punt, halfback Cam Settles muffed a direct snap by Kash Courtney. Yardbarker.com noted that the slippery ball was bobbled and kicked before rolling deep into the end zone, where Missouri defensive lineman Darris Smith fell on it for a bizarre touchdown. Blake Craig added a pair of field goals—including a 53-yarder in the second quarter, his longest of the season—to keep Missouri ahead.

Arkansas managed to claw back right before the break. Quarterback KJ Jackson orchestrated a 52-yard drive, connecting with Antonio Jordan on a 37-yard reception before sneaking left over the goal line with 41 seconds remaining in the half. Max Gilbert’s extra point narrowed the deficit to 13-7.

The Second-Half Surge

The game flipped definitively in the third quarter when the Missouri offense finally found its rhythm. Austin Simmons, who finished with 179 passing yards and two touchdowns, opened the second half by hitting Cayden Lee for a 46-yard gain to the Arkansas 11-yard line. Two plays later, Simmons connected with Donovan Olugbode for a 15-yard touchdown.

That score opened the floodgates. On the very next play from scrimmage, Missouri linebacker Nick Rodriguez forced Jackson to fumble. Santana Banner recovered the loose ball at the 45-yard line, setting up a 2-yard touchdown run by Roberts that pushed the lead to 27-7 with 9:47 remaining in the third quarter. In the fourth, Simmons found Roberts out of the backfield for a 10-yard scoring pass, cementing the final 34-10 margin.

Arkansas struggled mightily to generate any sustained ground attack against the Tiger front. The Razorbacks were restricted to just 59 rushing yards on 36 carries. Jackson finished 20-of-34 passing for 229 yards and a rushing score, while Jordan hauled in seven catches for 106 yards in a losing effort that dropped Arkansas to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the SEC.

A Welcome Return in the Backfield

Beyond the scoreboard, the evening marked a poignant milestone for Missouri. Ahmad Hardy, the SEC’s leading rusher a season ago, returned to action after missing the first seven games of the season. Hardy was wounded in the leg during a shooting at an outdoor concert in May.

In the game’s closing moments, he broke off a 37-yard run, finishing the night with three carries for 42 yards in his first action of the season.

With the victory secured, Missouri now turns its full attention toward hosting No. 11 Texas, while Arkansas travels to face Auburn.
