LA Mayoral Candidates Karen Bass and Nithya Raman Make Final Push Before Election Day

Los Angeles mayoral candidates Karen Bass and Nithya Raman spent Halloween on the final campaign trail before Election Day, fanning out across Southern California to court voters as the November 3 midterm election approaches, nbclosangeles.com reported.

Final Sprint to the November 3 Midterm

With just three days left until the Nov. 3 midterm election, voters throughout the region have steadily filled ballot drop boxes and cast in-person votes. The two mayoral candidates spent Saturday moving between union rallies, community business districts, and sporting events to pitch contrasting visions for leading the city over the next four years.

Bass Warns Against Sudden Leadership Shifts

Bass opened her day speaking at a union worker rally before touring small businesses in Boyle Heights. Positioning herself as the steady hand needed to prepare Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympic Games, the incumbent warned against sudden shifts in leadership.

“This is about affordability. It’s about safety, and it is about opportunity,” Bass said. “The opportunities that are coming our way in the next two and a half years.”

Bass also took aim at her opponent’s policy positions, questioning Raman’s consistency on public safety management. “I don’t know what her position is. One minute, she’s firing the police chief. The next minute, she’s not,” Bass said. “We need stability. We don’t need to have the uncertainty of somebody who wants to come in and experiment on our city.”

Raman Pledges Accountability on Housing and Homelessness

Raman countered that the current mayor has failed to make tangible progress on housing affordability and public safety.

LA mayoral candidates' final push

“Under this mayor’s leadership, by every metric that matters for Angelenos, things have gotten worse in LA,” Raman said.

Raman’s Saturday schedule included addressing hospitality union workers, judging a Halloween costume contest in Encino, and joining a tailgate outside the LA Memorial Coliseum ahead of the University of Southern California football game against Ohio State. Campaigning alongside Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, Raman pledged a renewed approach to municipal challenges. “As mayor and along with Supervisor (Lindsey) Horvath, we’re going to address homelessness with the urgency that it deserves,” Raman said. “And we’re going to address it with the accountability that it deserves.”

Voters Weigh Cost-Of-Living Challenges and Proposition 40

Voters in the final weekend of the election cycle have weighed a mix of pocketbook pressures and local ballot measures. Residents interviewed by NBCLA pointed to persistent cost-of-living challenges, Proposition 40 — known as the billionaire tax — and Latino representation as key issues guiding their votes.

“Getting the costs down for people that can’t afford to live,” a voter named Linda said. “It’s very difficult. I’m one of those now that have a fixed income.”
