Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell detailed the veteran leadership and impact of former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Carson Wentz during an appearance on the Chiefs Wire Podcast Interview Series.
Late Arrival Stabilizes Vikings Quarterback Room
Speaking with Senior Writer Ed Easton Jr., O’Connell discussed how the backup quarterback room evolved after Minnesota added Wentz a year ago, three or four days before training camp concluded. Despite the limited preparation window, O’Connell pointed to Wentz’s prior experience across multiple stops in the NFL as an immediate stabilizing force for the franchise.
O’Connell Praises Wentz’s Vast NFL Experience
“Carson brings so much knowledge; he brings so much knowledge of just the different stages of the quarterback journey as well,” O’Connell told the podcast. “We’re so fortunate to have had the opportunity to bring him in a year ago. I think it was three or four days before training camp ended.”
Efficient Play Fits Minnesota Offensive Scheme
The acquisition gave the Vikings an experienced presence behind center who understood the demands of a rigorous regular-season schedule. When pressed into action, Wentz delivered efficient play that fit into the team's offensive scheme.
Integration Despite Limited Camp Time
“He really didn’t get a lot of training camp time, and then when Carson played for us, he played pretty darn well; it was a really good fit in our offense,” O’Connell said.
