Kyrin Arthur and another teen Arrested in Cheyenne car burglary chase

The quiet hours of an October morning in Cheyenne were shattered on Oct. 13 when a series of vehicle break-ins escalated into a tense, multi-block chase involving law enforcement and two young suspects. According to a report by Cap City News, officers were dispatched to the vicinity of Custer Street and Pawnee Avenue around 3:45 a.m. following reports of masked individuals methodically checking vehicles for unlocked doors and valuables.

The investigation, which relies on police affidavits, reveals a chaotic scene where suspects attempted to evade capture by splitting up and fleeing through private properties. Kyrin Arthur, born in 2008, now faces significant legal jeopardy, including charges of felony robbery and resisting arrest. With a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison for the burglary charge, the stakes for the 18-year-old are life-altering.

The Mechanics of an Overnight Pursuit

When the first responding officers arrived on the scene, they observed one suspect attempting to conceal himself behind a pickup truck. The encounter was fleeting; as soon as the individual spotted the officer, they bolted. This initial evasion triggered a broader search of the neighborhood. A second officer successfully tracked Arthur, who also attempted to flee before being apprehended. During the pursuit, officers discovered a 9mm Sig Sauer P365 handgun and a cellphone abandoned near Arthur’s escape route, alongside a fanny pack containing additional 9mm ammunition.

The capture of the second suspect required the deployment of police technology. As officers coordinated their search, dispatchers received reports of a trespasser in a nearby backyard. An alert homeowner confronted the individual, who later fled upon noticing a police drone overhead, dropping a backpack in the process. Authorities eventually apprehended the teen several houses away. Inside the discarded backpack, police recovered a Garmin Inreach satellite communicator, a Leupold rangefinder, and more ammunition. The recovery of the Garmin device provided the critical link needed to solve the case: by calling a number associated with the device, detectives contacted a local hunter who was preparing for an excursion and had only recently realized his vehicle had been burglarized.

Evidence and the Path to Court

The connection between the suspects and the victims was further cemented by digital evidence. A resident provided doorbell camera footage that allegedly captured a masked teen, matching Arthur’s attire, breaking into a vehicle. This specific incident occurred nearly three miles away from the location where the arrests eventually took place, suggesting a wide-reaching path of property crime through the city’s northern neighborhoods.

While the legal process moves forward, the presumption of innocence remains paramount. Arthur and his co-defendant have not yet pleaded, and the judicial system must now weigh the evidence presented in the affidavit. The Laramie County justice system has set a $10,000 cash bond for Arthur, reflecting the seriousness with which the court views the possession of a firearm during the commission of an alleged felony.

The community now looks toward the next major procedural step. Arthur is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 12, where it will be determined if the case meets the threshold to move to the Laramie County District Court. As the court date approaches, the focus shifts from the chaos of the chase to the rigorous process of proving the charges in a court of law.
