Frederick Allen Smith Jr. Enters Guilty Plea in Federal Court
Frederick Allen Smith Jr., a 54-year-old resident of Madison, Florida, pleaded guilty in federal court to multiple felony charges involving methamphetamine distribution and illegal firearm possession, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida reported. Specifically, his admission of guilt includes having 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and 500 grams or more of a methamphetamine-containing mixture with intent to distribute, carrying a firearm to advance a drug trafficking offense, and holding a gun while having a prior felony record.
The case stems from a May 2026 search warrant executed at Smith’s residence by local and federal investigators, according to court documents. During the search, deputies recovered 703 grams of methamphetamine, a loaded handgun, ammunition, and more than $17,000 in cash. Prosecutors noted that Smith has multiple prior felony convictions dating back to 2005, which legally prohibited him from possessing any firearms or ammunition.
Federal Prosecutor Announces Guilty Plea for Armed Drug Trafficker
United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida John P. Heekin announced the guilty plea, emphasizing federal and local cooperation under current Department of Justice initiatives.

“Our state and federal law enforcement partners are cleaning up our streets and removing dangerous armed drug traffickers from our communities, and my office is backing up those efforts with aggressive prosecutions to ensure anyone who peddles deadly drugs in the Northern District of Florida is kept behind federal bars for as long as possible,” Heekin said. Heekin added that the prosecution aligns with priorities under President Donald J. Trump and Attorney General Todd Blanche to target armed narcotics distributors. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Drug Enforcement Administration to conduct the inquiry. Assistant United States Attorney Emma Schwan is handling the prosecution.
The legal action falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide Department of Justice program that coordinates federal, state, and local resources to combat violent crime. Public court documents regarding the proceedings are accessible through the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida website.
