Packing the House at Turnwater Bar and Grill
U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, took her re-election campaign to the Tri-State area Tuesday afternoon, drawing a packed room of supporters to the catering space at the Turnwater Bar and Grill in Fort Madison, Iowa, as WGEM reported.
Voters gathered to hear the incumbent congresswoman outline her path into politics and share personal life experiences. The stop provided southeast Iowa voters with direct access to the lawmaker as she staked out key policy positions for the district.
Drawing Sharp Policy Contrasts with Neighbors
Miller-Meeks made her legislative priorities crystal clear to the local crowd. She told supporters that she refuses to let Iowa mirror neighboring states such as Illinois and Minnesota, specifically pressing the attack on healthcare and job security.
The Economic Stakes of Domestic Steel
Moving from regional politics to industrial policy, the congresswoman emphasized the economic weight of domestic manufacturing infrastructure and supply chain integration across the Upper Midwest.

“That is a very big deal for the United States, to be able to have us cost-competitive with China when it comes to steel and that vertical integration between mining it in Minnesota, milling it here and then making it in America, that steel’s going to be used by manufacturing companies right here, SSAB just north of us, and then the jobs that it creates here in southeast Iowa, those things are very important to us,” Miller-Meeks explained to the crowd at the restaurant.
A Rematch Set in Southeast Iowa
Miller-Meeks faces Democrat Christina Bohannan once again, renewing a familiar political rivalry.
Bohannan lost the previous two elections to Miller-Meeks, setting the stage for a closely watched rematch as voters prepare to head to the polls.
