Minot State men’s hockey turned a narrow early-season deficit into a commanding offensive showcase on Wednesday night in Minot, North Dakota, defeating the University of Mary Marauders 6-1.
The matchup began as a tightly contested defensive struggle. Following a scoreless first period, Matthew Yakubowski broke the deadlock just under five minutes into the second frame, lighting the lamp with helpers from Colby Joseph and Joey Moffatt. Walker Jerome quickly extended the advantage to 2-0 roughly a minute later, burying a power-play goal off additional assists from Moffatt and Joseph. While the Marauders managed to claw one back roughly ten minutes into the period with a shorthanded strike, Sean Williams neutralized that momentum just 24 seconds later. Williams capitalized on another power-play chance, aided by Austin Clyne and Ty Plaisier, sending Minot State into the second intermission holding a comfortable 3-1 lead.
Special Teams Take Center Stage in the Final Period
The Beavers truly broke the game open in the third period, manufacturing three more goals entirely through disciplined power-play conversions. Slade Stanick opened the final frame’s scoring sequence with assists credited to Christian Kadolph and Sheldin Howard. Trenton Curtis followed approximately six minutes later, finding the back of the net off passes from Yakubowski and Jerome. Trentyn Crane cemented the 6-1 final score by netting his second goal of the evening, with Kadolph and Clyne picking up the helpers.
Between the pipes, goaltender Jase Wareham delivered a steady performance for Minot State, turning away 16 of 17 shots faced to record a .941 save percentage.
