Danish Design Acquisition Brings Sustainable Takt Into Montana’s Fold
“Takt brings experience with materials and the environment, and we are looking forward to bringing our respective experience together and taking this work even further,” Montana CEO Joakim Lassen said.
Danish furniture maker Montana has acquired fellow Danish design brand Takt, integrating the sustainable manufacturer into its existing operations under the new collection name Takt by Montana. The buyout noted that the deal covers Takt’s future product launches as well as its existing catalogue.
From Physics to Flat-Pack Furniture
Founded in 2019 by trained physicist and former Lego and Bang & Olufsen executive Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, Takt carved out a distinct niche in the Scandinavian design market. The company focuses on producing modern furniture using FSC-certified wood, emphasizing low-carbon footprints, flat-pack shipping, and designs that facilitate easy disassembly. Its current lineup features notable pieces such as the Cross chair, crafted by British design duo Pearson Lloyd, and the Spoke sofa, designed by Anderssen & Voll.
The acquisition transfers control of Takt’s entire existing catalogue and future developments to the established modular storage maker. While Lorensen steps down as independent owner, he will join Montana Furniture’s board to provide ongoing guidance on sustainability initiatives, and Takt employees will be integrated into Montana’s organization as far as possible.

Takt Targets Net-Zero Emissions by 2030
Takt has built its reputation on an ambitious approach to sustainability, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2030. Rather than relying solely on operational cutbacks, the company prioritizes emissions reductions directly through product design. It assesses its carbon footprint across the entire lifecycle using the European Union’s Product Environmental Footprint single score and claims to be the only design brand to consistently have all of its products marked with the EU Ecolabel.
“The starting point was to get a grasp of the impact of the choices we’re making,” Lorensen explained during an earlier industry interview with Dezeen.
For Montana, which has operated since 1982 and is widely recognized for its brightly colored modular storage systems, the acquisition offers a chance to expand its portfolio while absorbing valuable environmental expertise. Lassen noted that the Takt collection will serve as an understated counterpart to Montana’s existing vibrant furniture offerings.
Montana Infrastructure Helps Takt Scale Its Reach
By folding into Montana’s established international infrastructure, Lorensen hopes the brand will scale its reach and introduce its environmentally conscious furniture to a much broader audience.
“The past few years have been an exciting and instructive journey for TAKT,” Lorensen said. “We have built a brand where materials and the environment have been central, and we have collaborated with a number of talented and celebrated designers. Now it is time for TAKT’s next chapter, and we are delighted that it will be written together with Montana.”
