Two Arrested Following Downtown Columbia Shooting

Two men are in custody following a shooting in downtown Columbia early Saturday morning that left a 36-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries. Columbia Police Department officers responded to the intersection of Eighth Street and Walnut Street at 2:30 a.m. after reports of gunfire. According to the Columbia Police Department, the victim received immediate medical attention at the scene before being transported to a local hospital, where she is currently in stable condition.

The investigation into the incident involved a significant law enforcement presence. KOMU reported that crews observed approximately 15 police vehicles and several fire trucks securing the area, with officers cordoning off the scene to collect evidence, including shell casings. While police were initially searching for suspects in the hours immediately following the 2:30 a.m. call, two arrests were confirmed by Saturday night.

Suspects Held on Weapons and Drug Charges

Authorities identified the two individuals taken into custody as 28-year-old Demarquen Allen and 23-year-old Iseah Jackson. According to police records, the charges filed against the men reflect different aspects of the investigation:

  • Demarquen Allen: Arrested for unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.
  • Iseah Jackson: Arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance, and delivery of a controlled substance.

As of Saturday night, online records from the Boone County Jail indicated that Allen was being held without bond. Jackson was not listed on the jail roster at that time, according to reports from both KOMU and ABC 17 News.

Police Response and Local Impact

The incident occurred in a high-traffic area of downtown Columbia, a district that serves as a primary hub for local nightlife and commerce. CPD Lieutenant Anthony Bowne stated that officers were in the immediate vicinity when the shots were fired, allowing them to locate the victim and secure the scene rapidly. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives process the evidence gathered near the intersection of Eighth and Walnut.

For residents and business owners in the district, the presence of police tape and emergency vehicles at 3:35 a.m.—when officers were still actively searching for suspects—serves as a reminder of the shooting that occurred in the area. The department has not yet released further details regarding the circumstances that led to the confrontation between the suspects and the victim.
