Heidi Klum Arrives as a Giant Severed Hand for 25th Annual Halloween Party
Heidi Klum marked the 25th anniversary of her annual Halloween celebration in New York on Saturday by arriving inside an elaborate, bloody severed hand costume. The supermodel and television personality spent five to six hours getting into the prosthetic-heavy ensemble, which featured long red nails, a thumb ring, and her actual wedding band and engagement ring.
The transformation rendered Klum largely unrecognisable at Cathédrale Restaurant at Moxy East Village, with only her eyes and mouth visible. Blood dripped from her mouth as she posed for photographers, while the top of the hand terminated in a network of exposed ligaments and tendons. She was accompanied to the venue by assistants dressed in blood-stained hazmat suits.
Heidi Klum Designs Giant Hand Costume
Klum stated that the idea originated last year when she looked at her own left hand and realized she could fit her entire body inside a sculptural replica of it. Special effects makeup designer Mike Marino collaborated on the look, noting that the build was exceptionally intricate and challenging.
The scale of the costume created immediate logistical hurdles on the red carpet. “Hands down, the hardest thing is carrying it. It’s quite heavy,” Klum noted during red carpet interviews.
The annual party, presented by Apothic and Butterfinger, has established itself as a fixture of the holiday calendar since Klum began hosting it 25 years ago. Past iterations have included a slithering earthworm in 2022 that arrived on the end of a fishing line, the Greek mythological figure Medusa, a peacock, an 8ft Transformer toy, a werewolf from Michael Jackson’s Thriller music video, a multi-armed Kali, and a set of identical clones.
Tom Klum Misses Party During Tour
Musician Tom Kaulitz did not attend the Saturday night gathering because he was on tour. However, Klum incorporated a personal tribute into the design, ensuring that the hand featured palm lines, veins, and a replica tattoo of his name on the ring finger. “A little bit of Tom is with me,” she remarked.
In the lead-up to the reveal, Klum partnered with Apothic Wines to release limited-edition Apothic x Heidi Klum Type ‘A’ Blood Bags, which were also served to guests inside the venue.
