Egypt’s Meteorological Authority announced that Sunday, October 4, 2026, brings mild autumn weather across northern coasts alongside hot conditions in Greater Cairo and northern Upper Egypt, and very hot conditions in southern Upper Egypt. Forecasters warn of morning fog, coastal rain, and brisk winds reaching 40 kilometers per hour in multiple governorates.
Autumnal patterns have settled across most of Egypt, bringing temperatures closer to seasonal norms after a prolonged stretch of summer heat, according to meteorological officials. Mahmoud El-Ghayaty, a meteorologist with the Meteorological Authority, explained during a telephone interview on the Good Morning Egypt
broadcast on Channel One that the transition between seasons introduces familiar atmospheric shifts, including cloud cover, cooler night air, and localized weather changes. El-Ghayaty noted that overnight and early morning hours experience a marked drop in minimum temperatures, while winds can intensify the chill during dark hours.
Temperature Ranges and Regional Variations Across Egypt
Daytime conditions remain warm to hot across the country, while overnight and early morning hours bring a noticeable chill. The Meteorological Authority reports that Greater Cairo and the Delta region reach a daytime high of 29 to 30 degrees Celsius with an overnight low of 19 to 20 degrees. Northern coastal areas experience milder weather, recording highs of 26 to 29 degrees and lows around 19 to 20 degrees. Additional city figures show Damanhur reaching a high of 28 and a low of 19, Wadi El Natrun recording a high of 30 and a low of 18, and Alexandria seeing a high of 27 and a low of 20 degrees.

Southern Upper Egypt experiences the hottest conditions in the country. Forecasters project that day temperatures in southern regions reach 37 degrees Celsius with nighttime lows of 24 degrees, while northern parts of Upper Egypt record highs of 30 degrees and lows of 20 degrees. Further south, Sharm El Sheikh reaches an afternoon high of 33 with a low of 25, while Shalatin records a peak of 37 and a low of 26 degrees.
Low-Pressure System Brings Rain to Coastal Egypt
A surface low-pressure system is influencing the country, bringing cloud cover and lowered temperatures. Northwestern coastal areas and parts of northern Lower Egypt face a 30 percent chance of light to moderate rain, which may turn thundery at times and occasionally intensify over the desert of Matrouh. Lighter, isolated rainfall with a lower probability of about 10 percent may extend to parts of the northeast coast, the Suez Canal cities, Greater Cairo, central Upper Egypt, the Western Desert, and South Sinai.

Iman Shaker stated, “Tomorrow’s weather on Sunday will feature mild autumn conditions during the day on the northern coasts, hot weather in the Delta, Greater Cairo, and northern Upper Egypt, and very hot weather in southern Upper Egypt, while it will be moderate at the beginning of the night and turning cool at its end and in the early morning,” according to the Middle East News Agency.
Morning Fog and Wind Advisories for Drivers
Visibility on major highways is impacted by morning fog developing between 4:00 AM and 8:00 AM. Transportation authorities advise drivers to exercise caution along routes connecting northern governorates to Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal zone, central Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt.
Winds across most regions maintain speeds between 30 and 40 kilometers per hour, providing relief from daytime heat in shaded spots and during the evening. In parts of southern Upper Egypt and the New Valley governorate, however, winds may stir up dust and sand.
