Beginning October 8, 2026, authorities in Giza have implemented a five-day trial closure of the route from the 26th of July Axis toward the 15th of May Bridge. This traffic diversion precedes a six-month full closure starting October 12, 2026, to facilitate construction on the Nile Valley – 6 October Monorail line.
Giza Tests Traffic Flow for Monorail Construction
The Giza General Traffic Department has initiated a phased traffic plan to accommodate the construction of the Nile Valley – 6 October Monorail line. The current phase involves a dry trial—a period of total closure without active construction—designed to evaluate traffic flow and the efficacy of alternative routes.
This trial period began at 12:05 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, and is scheduled to conclude on the morning of Monday, October 12, 2026. Following this assessment, the full-scale construction phase will commence, maintaining the closure for six months. Officials state this second phase will begin at 6:00 a.m. on October 12 and persist until the project is completed.

Alternative Routes for 15th of May Bridge Access
To mitigate congestion for motorists traveling from the Western Arch of the Ring Road toward the 15th of May Bridge, the Giza Traffic Department has designated two primary detours. Signage, warning lights, and traffic services have been deployed throughout the construction perimeter to guide drivers.
- First Route: Vehicles exiting the Ring Road onto the 26th of July Axis should take the ramp leading to Sudan Street. Drivers should continue along Sudan Street to the intersection with Arab League Street, then turn left to reach the 15th of May Bridge.
- Second Route: Motorists may take the ramp toward Lebanon Square. From there, they should enter Lebanon Street, turn left onto Shehab Street, and proceed left onto the Nile Valley tunnel surface road, which leads back to the 26th of July Axis toward the bridge, bypassing the work zone.
Authorities Deploy Warning Markers to Ensure Public Safety
The General Traffic Department has coordinated with the construction companies to ensure that all necessary technical aids and warning markers are in place.

Authorities have emphasized that their primary focus remains maintaining traffic fluidity and ensuring public safety throughout the six-month project. While the department has committed to immediate intervention should significant bottlenecks occur, officials advise motorists to strictly follow the posted signs and utilize the designated detours to minimize delays.
