Marking the third anniversary of the October 7, 2023, attacks, Hamas reaffirmed its commitment to the Gaza ceasefire agreement on Wednesday while trading sharp warnings with Israeli leadership over alleged military buildups and stalled diplomatic roadmaps.
As the conflict entered its third year, Hamas issued a public statement declaring its readiness to fulfill its obligations under the ongoing ceasefire framework. The group stated that it remains cooperative with international mediators to ensure the arrangement succeeds.
Hamas Blames US and Mediators for Israeli Noncompliance
The diplomatic track remains tangled in mutual accusations. Hamas placed responsibility squarely on the United States and international mediators, urging them to compel Israeli compliance with the negotiated roadmap designed to end the war, deliver humanitarian relief, and rebuild the devastated territory. According to the group, Israeli authorities are driving a systematic campaign to deepen civilian hardship and sustain blockades.

Tensions extend beyond immediate humanitarian disputes. Earlier diplomatic friction involved sharp criticism from Hamas representatives targeting the Peace Council and its representative, Mladenov, over what the group characterized as a failure to compel Israeli adherence to ceasefire terms according to prior statements from the movement’s spokespersons. Hazem Qassem, a spokesperson for Hamas, asserted that allegations of ceasefire violations leveled by the Israeli military were completely unfounded and intended to manufacture pretexts for ongoing hostilities.
In an official statement, Hamas affirmed the movement's commitment to implementing what is incumbent upon it under the ceasefire agreement, and its keenness, in cooperation with the mediators, to make it a success.
Israeli Leadership Warns of Pre-Election Attacks
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz countered with warnings regarding militant activities.
Shin Bet chief David Zinny reported indicators suggesting that militant factions were preparing for an expanded offensive, pointing to active subterranean construction and tactical positioning opposite areas under Israeli military control as detailed during the cabinet briefing. Zinny noted that while the military continues clearing tunnels located on the Israeli-controlled side of the barrier, intense activity persists on the opposing side.
Disarmament Disputes Persist Amid Heavy Palestinian Casualties
At the center of the stalled transition to subsequent phases of the ceasefire lies the contentious issue of disarmament.
The three years of fighting have left a staggering human and physical toll. Palestinian authorities report that the military campaign has resulted in more than 74,000 deaths and 174,952 injuries, alongside thousands of missing persons, showing how these losses complicate every fragile diplomatic opening. Hamas also urged the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice to pursue Israeli officials on charges of war crimes and genocide to ensure they do not escape accountability.
