Jaguar has unveiled its £130,000 Type 01 grand tourer in New York, marking an all-electric reboot for the historic British brand. Built on a dedicated platform with a tri-motor setup delivering 1,015 horsepower, the vehicle aims to capture a younger, affluent tech-focused audience when orders open in early 2027.
The vehicle made its debut in New York on Tuesday evening, representing the pinnacle of a two-year rebranding initiative that ranks among the most closely examined in the history of the auto industry.
The unveiling in New York City concluded a contentious two-year rebranding effort that began with an advertising campaign featuring models without cars and a hot pink concept at Miami Art Week, leaving critics and automotive enthusiasts guessing about the brand’s future direction.

According to 58-year-old managing director Rawdon Glover, leadership anticipates that the automobile will draw a more youthful and affluent demographic, moving away from the brand’s former declining and older clientele composed of men in their 50s.
Jaguar Unleashes 1,015-Horsepower Monolith
Underneath its dramatic exterior, the Type 01 packs an enormous mechanical punch. Chief engineer Jon Darlington confirmed that the vehicle relies exclusively on a tri-motor setup developing 1,015 horsepower and 1,007 lb-ft of torque, routing power through an 850-volt electrical architecture.
That power translates to a 0–62 mph sprint in 3.2 seconds, with an additional push from 62 to 112 mph taking just four seconds. Jaguar estimates a maximum range of up to 450 miles on the WLTP cycle, with real-world motorway cruising at a constant 75 mph expected to yield around 320 miles. When it is time to recharge, a 350 kW DC fast charger can take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in about 22 minutes.
The Type 01 sits on Jaguar’s new, dedicated electric architecture, known as JEA, which was developed specifically to deliver the dramatic proportions and driving character the team wanted. More than 360 patent applications helped make the Type 01 its most technically advanced car ever. Jaguar notes that the Type 01 stands as its most potent street vehicle to date, generating up to 1,030hp and 1,365Nm of torque. Power is split 30 per cent at the front and 70 per cent at the rear across its three electric motors, propelling the vehicle to 62mph in 3.2 seconds and maxing out at 150mph, while claiming a 435-mile range via WLTP figures.
Engineers Ditch the Rear Window for Aluminium Chassis
Measuring 5,235 mm long, the grand tourer is physically massive yet low-slung. The chassis relies heavily on aluminium, comprising 73 percent of the structure. One of the most polarising exterior design choices is the complete absence of a rear window, replaced instead by a high-definition camera feeding a slim, letterbox-shaped screen inside the cabin. To achieve its aerodynamic efficiency, which tops out at a 0.23 Cd coefficient, the vehicle underwent 7,000 wind tunnel tests.

Inside, a central spine divides the four-seat cabin into individual spaces, utilizing travertine stone-inspired tones and a wool-blend textile from Kvadrat on the seats. A 24-inch OLED display dominates the driver’s view, handling both vehicle information and infotainment media.
Parent Company Faces Job Cuts Amid Financial Pressure
The launch arrives at a testing financial moment for parent company Jaguar Land Rover, which has faced falling market share and 4,000 announced job cuts aimed at saving £1.7bn over two years. Glover noted that the company previously contended with a shrinking and ageing customer base of middle-aged men, positioning the Type 01 to attract very design literate, very technology literate buyers primarily in the American market.
Orders are scheduled to open in early 2027, with customer deliveries anticipated to begin in the second half of that year.
