Rain Delays INDIA Bloc’s Public Impeachment of CEC Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi
Continuous rain across the capital forced the INDIA opposition bloc to postpone its scheduled Friday afternoon “public impeachment” of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, pushing the symbolic event to Saturday.
The proceedings, initially set for 3:30 p.m. on Friday at the Rajaji Marg residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, were rescheduled. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi confirmed that the programme has been pushed to Saturday at 4 p.m.
Logistics and Scheduled Speakers for Saturday
Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar is scheduled to chair the proceedings at 10, Rajaji Marg. Kharge, who serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, will move the motion. Rahul Gandhi is expected to deliver the concluding remarks before the “motion” is passed by voting.
Organizers have invited members of parliament from the INDIA bloc. At least 30 speakers representing 21 political parties are expected to participate, alongside civil society representatives and citizens affected by the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. While an invitation was extended to the BJD, the party has not yet confirmed its participation.

Broader Protests Over Electoral Rolls
The symbolic impeachment stems from opposition disputes over the Special Intensive Revision exercise and allegations of vote theft. Opposition parties have scheduled a mega protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar for November 1 at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.
Preparations for the opposition campaign were finalized during a Thursday meeting at Kharge’s residence. Attendees included Congress general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Jairam Ramesh, and K. C. Venugopal, alongside Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien, Samajwadi Party’s Harendra Malik, JMM’s Mahua Maji, and CPI(M)’s John Brittas.
