Black Caps Smash Record Total at Eden Park Against India
Down 3-0 in the T20 series against India, the Black Caps responded with a record-breaking offensive display at Eden Park, smashing 259 for 7 to post their highest ever total in the format. The innings featured utter brutality from the New Zealand batting lineup, anchored by a blazing century from Glenn Phillips and a rapid-fire 65 from Michael Bracewell as the pair plundered 16 sixes between them.
Slow Outfield Hinders Black Caps Early Powerplay
Intermittent rain throughout the day left a noticeably slow outfield at Eden Park, causing early trouble as the Black Caps struggled to find the rope during the initial powerplay. Opening batter Finn Allen sliced a delivery down to third man where Prince Yadav took the catch, though it proved mute as Mayank Yadav had overstepped on the delivery. Two balls later, however, Prince Yadav made no mistake when Tim Seifert slashed at a delivery, getting a thick outside edge that was safely swallowed up to leave the hosts in early strife.
The shackles finally broke in the third over when Daryl Mitchell sent Mayank Yadav into the stands with back-to-back sixes followed by consecutive boundaries. Yadav struck back in the same over, trapping Mitchell in front for 24 off just nine balls. Allen and Phillips continued pressing through the powerplay, bringing up fifty in the fifth over with a Phillips six over backward square. Allen added two massive sixes before holing out to deep cover off the bowling of Axar Patel.

Phillips and Bracewell Build Record Century Stand
Phillips continued his charge, bringing up his century and notching his third fifty of the series. Following the departure of Bevon Jacobs for seven, Michael Bracewell joined Phillips in the middle to accelerate the scoring rate. The pair raced to a 50 partnership from just 18 balls. Bracewell blazed his way to 40 from 13 deliveries and survived a chance in the fourteenth over when Naman Dhir spilled an opportunity into the night sky.
That dropped chance proved costly as Bracewell and Phillips put on a century stand in blistering style, pushing the run rate past 12 and the score past 200 with four overs still to play. India finally broke the stand when Bracewell was dismissed after blasting 65 off only 25 balls. Phillips reached his century in style with a mammoth six over long off before being dismissed in the final over to a rapturous ovation, leaving the team total at 259 for 7 after Mitch Santner departed for five. India’s innings was set to resume shortly following the record-setting performance.
