Mount Rinjani Generates Rp443 Billion for Local Communities
Tourism and ecosystem services at Mount Rinjani National Park generated an economic turnover of Rp443 billion, roughly equivalent to US$24.37 million, for surrounding communities between 2021 and 2025. ANTARA News reported this figure, detailing how visitor activity on Lombok Island translated directly into financial circulation across West Nusa Tenggara Province.
Speaking during a working visit by delegates from the Ministry of National Development Planning, known as Bappenas, Head of the Mount Rinjani National Park Office Budhy Kurniawan explained that park-related activities produced an average economic multiplier ratio of 3.7. Every single rupiah spent by visitors at the volcanic destination generated up to 3.7 times that value in economic circulation. This dynamic directly benefited local communities, supporting sectors such as lodging, transportation, food and dining, as well as porter and trekking services.
This significant multiplier effect demonstrates that Mount Rinjani delivers wide-ranging benefits for local livelihoods and the regional economy, while simultaneously establishing a crucial foundation for sustainable conservation funding.
State revenue records show a parallel climb over the same span.
Non-Tax State Revenue Shows Steep Upward Trajectory
Beyond community-level impacts, the park contributed Rp96.9 billion, or about US$5.33 million, in non-tax state revenue, known as PNBP, collected between 2021 and September 2026. State revenue from the destination has maintained a steep upward trajectory in recent years, according to figures released by park officials.
Statistical records show non-tax state revenue stood at Rp577.5 million, or US$31,776, in 2021. That figure surged sharply to Rp4.9 billion, or US$269,615, in 2022. Strong growth continued in subsequent years, with receipts climbing to Rp14.7 billion, or US$808,847, in 2023. By 2024, receipts reached Rp22.5 billion, or US$1.24 million, before rising to Rp25.9 billion, or US$1.42 million, in 2025.
As of September 2026, the non-tax state revenue of the Mount Rinjani National Park Office reached an all-time high of Rp28.3 billion, roughly US$1.56 million. Kurniawan noted that this growth reflects improved nature tourism management alongside sustained domestic and international visitor interest.
